National Agriculture Research Systems Innovation Show
The National Agriculture Research Systems Management Committee is proud to announce the National Agriculture Research Systems Innovation Show (NARS – IS), which is planned for the 12th of May 2026.
The theme for the show is “Bridging the Gap through Research and Innovation for Market Demand”.
Formerly known as the National Agricultural Research Institute’s Innovation Show, this flagship event is rebranded in a bid to highlight the importance of research in the agriculture sector.
For the first time in years, all agricultural research institutions from the Commodity Boards, the Livestock Development Corporation, Fresh Produce Development Agency, PNG Biosecurity, the National Agriculture Research Institute and the Department of Agriculture and Livestock will come together to address farming challenges and present the opportunities available in an agriculture value chain.
Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock and the Chairman of the National Agriculture Research Systems (NARS) Management Committee, Dr Sergie Bang said the show is an avenue to highlight both the adaptive and adoptive innovations and technologies achieved through research.
“It is imperative to demonstrate to our farmers the opportunities along the value chain and how adapting and adopting new technologies and innovations can enhance their production, address efficiency, and increase yield to enhance returns.
The key NARS members are currently working on a Policy Framework to create an enabling environment for collaboration within each research institute to achieve the National Government’s agenda of progressing from subsistence farming to commercialisation as stipulated in the National Agriculture Sector Plan (NASP) 2024-2033.
“The Mission of the NASP is to facilitate the transformation of agriculture in PNG from subsistence production to viable commercial enterprises through productive partnerships, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurial farming systems,” said Dr Bang.
This year the show will be hosted by the National Agricultural Research Institute at its Momase Regional Centre, 10mile Lae, Morobe Province.
Co-chair of the NARS Management Committee and Director General of the National Agriculture Research Institute, Dr Nelson Simbiken said NARI has fully embraced the concept of NARS partnership in addressing emerging research challenges and adapting to the opportunities.
“The NARS Innovation Show is the first step in uniting institutions that are one way or the other involved in agricultural research. Drawing from each other’s strengths, we contribute to improving agriculture value chains by providing realistic solutions that are adaptable and effective.”
