Nominations on NARI Council – Member Representing Growers’ Associations

The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is the prime organization established by an Act of Parliament (NARI Act 1996) for conducting and fostering applied and development-oriented research in the agriculture and rural development sectors in Papua New Guinea. Besides, NARI is responsible for providing analytical, diagnostic and advisory services and up-to-date information to the agriculture sector in PNG.

Section 7.1 (g) of the NARI Act 1996 provides for one member representing growers’ associations to be on the NARI Council. Such a member needs to be nominated by legally recognised growers’ (farmers’) association (organization) in the agriculture sector.

New members for a term of three years are to be appointed to take office soon. This appointment will be made by the National Executive Council based on recommendation by the Minister for Agriculture.

Expression of Interest by Smallholder Farmers to be Members of NARI Council

The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is the prime organization established by an Act of Parliament (NARI Act 1996) for conducting and fostering applied and development-oriented Research in the Agriculture and rural Development sectors in Papua New Guinea. Besides, NARI is responsible for providing analytical, diagnostic and advisory services and up-to-date information to the agriculture sector in PNG.

Section 7.1 (f) of the NARI Act 1996 provides for three smallholders farmers to be members of the NARI Council. One of these members shall be a female. New members for a term of three years are to be appointed to take office soon. These appointments will be made by the National Executive Council based on recommendation by the Minister for Agriculture.
