A two-day planning workshop for all six NARI Regional Centres ended on a high note on Friday February 28.
The workshop organised and facilitated by headquarters was held at the Alan Quartermain Multi Purpose Hall from Thursday 27th to Friday 28th of February,2025. It was attended by Regional Centre Managers and their Research Development Officers.
The workshop focused on the 2025 Annual Work Plan was officially opened by the Director General of NARI,Dr.Nelson Simbiken who challenged Centre Managers to adapt new changes and work within minimal budget and make an impact in their respective regions.
Chief Facilitator, Deputy Director General,Dr.Peter Gendua emphasised the need for a change and urged all Centre Managers to perform up to standard and beyond to build up their respective centres and make them look like Agricultural Research Centres.
He further stressed that adhoc operations must stop and from now onward, all activities done at the centres must be aligned to NARI Annual Implementation Plans and the Strategic Implementation Plan to make it easier and convenient for the institute to report back to the Government of the day.
Dr.Gendua pointed out Monitoring and Evaluation as a crucial part of the institute’s work plan as it is the determining factor where funding from Government or donor agencies is concerned. Information and Data are the key focus areas in all centres and must be made as priority in the work plans.
Meanwhile, an elated Momase Regional Centre Manager ,Mr.James Maima told NARI Nius,he was extremely excited as this is something new from previous AIPs and he is ready to implement his priorities target area,Land Use. He said, the plots have been mapped out by Mr.Mark Tinah,GIS officer and he is ready to develop the marked area.
Echoing similar sentiments, Aiyura Centre Manager,Mr.Frank Mepe said, the workshop had given them a head start and he is grateful now that he knows where to commence his work. The open discussion is very useful as it is a guideline to planning realistically with an expected end result.
